Bad Quality Control
The radio itself is great. What is not great is the quality control or engineering. I've been using my radio for about a month, and the kickstand folded out from underneath it when I went to press the power button. One of the tabs broke off the side. I have 3 years of experience in plastic engineering & injection molding quality control (automotive interiors) and I can tell a bad quality part when I see one. Each side's tab has "weld lines" rendering them structurally weak and prone to failure. I have attached pictures of these areas which also shows where mine broke. ------------------------------------------------------------ Weld lines from Wikipedia : In manufacturing, the Weld line or Knit line or Meld line is the line where two flow fronts meet when there is the inability of two or more flow fronts to "knit" together, or "weld", during the molding process. These lines usually occur around holes or obstructions and cause locally weak areas in the molded part. Knit lines are considered molding defects, and occur when the mold or/and material temperatures are set too low: thus the materials will be cold when they meet, so that they do not bond perfectly. This can cause a weak area in the part which can cause breakage when the part is under stress. ------------------------------------------------------------ I contacted Tecsun in china and they offered to replace my kickstand for $7.50, which I reluctantly paid since I find the kickstand useful. I will update this review with the quality of my replacement and if it still has these defects.
