Reads Like a 1970's Harlequin
There are a number of issues with this book. Start with the premise that our couple had a one night stand after which the H left town then never contacted or even asked about the h. We are supposed to believe that a fender bender five years later makes him realize that she is the one he has been missing all these years while he has been having sex with multiple other women and even being engaged!!! Gak! Toss in the fact that he was 8 years older when she was barely an adult. Of course, while he has been gadding about, she has never taken another lover. We get instalove with a dose of emotional ping pong. Crash. Running away. Sex. He wants her. She says no. She wants him, but he's not talking to her. VERY juvenile behavior with some of the most stilted, dated dialogue I have ever seen. Think of 1940's movie dialogue and you will get the picture. 'Please know that I want to give you the answer you desire, the one my heart cries out to give, but I can’t, not today, not now.' The sex is likely to be a problem for all readers. Some people will hate the story because there is sex. The rest of us are rolling our eyes because the sex is so boring. Apparently our H has never heard of foreplay and the poor h, who has only had him as a lover, doesn't know any better. They go from not seeing each other for five years to “Please, Ben. I need you inside me.” This is something she says frequently. Straight to the penetration, Batman. There is a lot of plunging. Ick! "...plunged into her depths, holding tight as he pumped and withdrew with wild abandon." Not sexy! Without giving away specific details, there is some very odd behavior by both the leading characters towards the end of the book. The H makes a ridiculous decision that is offensive to both the h and her father. She has an uncalled for meltdown blaming the H for not being involved for the past five years when she was the one with the secret. There is a secondary plot line with a doctor that was awkward. Their behavior toward him was shoddy. You know when you are a kid and you are forced to eat some vegetable you really don't like? That is how I felt about this book. This is a one star read. The second star is a bonus because it was free.
