Things that seriously bothered me...Consent is necessary for sex on both sides or it’s rape. She was drunk. Smashed. No consent happened. He used no protection without discussing it with her. She wasn’t sober enough to have that discussion. Rape. Clara the heroine is kept in the alleged hero’s Buck’s house with no option to leave. That’s called Unlawful Restraint. And she’s okay with that. He throws her across the room leaving 9 bruises including his handprints on her arms. That’s criminal domestic violence. When she tried to talk to him about it he doesn’t apologize. Like all abusers he blames her because “she wouldn’t get out of his way.” Later he barely apologized and because he had a look in his eyes she forgave him. What?! And finally, shades of Tack and Tyra. It wasn’t what I expected of KA. I finished the book but disappointed on so many levels. The plot was a weak version of Motorcycle Man and with no real discussions of the H’s abuse, helps to normalize abusive behavior. Pass on this KA offering. Not even close to her best work.
