Why does Amazon offer me something I desperately want as a Tolkien fan and make it so horrible
The list of things that are horrible about this show so far is varied, long and intense so I'll sum it up with just what happened in episode 6. I'm choosing this one because by eliminating the Elrond/Durin story and the Harfoots/Stranger story, we can really hone in on where the writers have gone wrong. Note that I said writers, not casting directors. I love most of the cast and I'm sure that given a good story and script, they would knock it out of the park. However, because they have not taken this selection of the Tolkien source material as a different era with mostly different characters and their own arcs, the writers and directors and producers have (perhaps on orders from above?) tried to make lightning strike twice with an 'Aragorn' story. Halbrand is presented to us as a new (old) Aragorn story that never actually happened. We don't need him for this part of Tolkien's history to be interesting. Galadriel doesn't need to be the best at everything to be great. How did Numenor know exactly where to go to find the orc army? How did they get there riding at full gallop in battle gear in just a couple days? WHere did all the horses fit in the tiny ships they sailed in? Was it an undetectable extension charm? Oh wait, that's a different fantasy universe! Remember when the volcano erupted at Pompeii and all the people caught in the pyroclastic flow survived? No? Oh right, that's because they didn't!!!! If you are going to have Galadriel get up after a volcano erupted on her and have her be covered in soot, you have to change all of this to an animated series and put silly music in the background so we know that we are supposed to laugh at this kind of thing! I'm so sad at what they have done with this source material. They tried to recreate the Hobbit movies and not the Lord of the Rings. Shame on you Amazon!
