Doesn't Really Do what it Claims, and is Pretty Terrible at what it Does.
The fact that all of the other reviews seem to focus on how great their tech support is when something goes wrong should probably tell you something. First of all, it's not really an automated organizing tool the way it advertises itself. You have to pre-organize your paper documents before scanning, or re-organize them after scanning, to get the desired result. I put a stack of miscellaneous docs into the feeder to see it in action, only to discover that I had to scan into a specific organization folder. It wasn't going to do it for me. That was disappointment #1. Disappointment #2 is when, after scanning the one receipt that I loaded flawlessly, it then proceeded to grab the rest of the documents 3 and 4 at a time, and thus missed the majority of the stack. It took about a full minute to process the receipt after scanning it, and didn't even make it to the rest of the botched scans before the software crashed, with a stack of 3 documents (I assume) half-scanned and waiting halfway through the feeder. I had to very carefully pull them through the rest of the way just to get them back. Bottom line, this product is not what it claims to be, and you could probably do just as well using a generic printer-scanner-copier device, or preferably, a competitor that actually works (I've heard the Fujitsu Scansnap fits that bill, though I have yet to try it). You might not get the PDF searchability that Neat is supposed to provide with an all-in-one, but if that's all you need, you could just buy the software and avoid the junky hardware. Maybe I should test it out more, but the first try was a colossal-enough failure that I've already decided to return it.
