This Accessory Not Supported By This Iphone
I have bought two Ihome charging alarm clocks on Amazon for my Iphone 4s The first was a small version, the IP-16. When I went to set it up, I got the message "This accessory not supported by this Iphone"! It still charges the Iphone, and the alarm works but the phone won't sync with it and I can't play music off my iphone through it. I checked all the paperwork and found that the IPhone 4s was not specifically listed as being supported, it just said it was compatable with ipads, iponds, and iphones. At the time, I assumed that the clock was made before the 4s came out and there was something about the 4s that made it incompatable. I can't remember what IOS version the Iphone was running at the time I ordered it, but I think it was 5 or 6. I put the clock in our guest bedroom to be used as a manual alarm clock and charger for my two visiting daughters who also have IPhones. I then scoured Amazon for an Ihome alarm clock that specifically listed the 4s as being compatible. I found the ID45. I ordered it, paying about $80 for it. By the time it arrived, I was running IOS version 7 on the Iphone 4s. I excitedly set the radio/alarm clock/charger up, inserted my 4s and got the message "This accessory not supported by this device." WTF? Now, the ID45 is a great charger. It is an adequate bedside radio. With it's dual preset alarms it is a good alarm clock. So, I decided to keep it. I also kept the original one for the guest room. But, I will never, never, never buy another product from IHome. And you shouldn't either! UPDATE - UPDATE - UPDATE I copied this review to IHome customer service the day I posted it here. This morning I got an email back. It read: ======= Hi Terry, The iP16 does support the 4G phone as long as the phone doesn't have a case/cover. With the iD45 and the iOS7 it does support it also but, you may need to reset your device. The update sometimes will give you this message but Apple says reset the device. Thanks, iHome Support ======== I reset my Iphone and tried again. "This accessory not supported by this Iphone". Then I reset it while the Iphone was docked in the radio thinking that might be required. "This accessory not supported by this Iphone." Then just to be safe and the "device" tech support was referring to was the ID45 itself, I looked for a reset button. There was none. So I unplugged the radio and let it sit for five minutes before plugging it back in. Then I docked the Iphone. Guess what? "This accessory is not supported by this Iphone." You know, even though IHome is telling me that their $80 radio is "compatible" with the Iphone, I am beginning to believe it isn't. I still haven't given up. I sent another email back to Ihome support this morning. I didn't bother to tell them that I realize I can't put the Iphone into either the IP16 or the ID45 WITH THE CASE OR COVER ON! When I get another reply, if I get a reply, I'll give you another update. UPDATE - UPDATE - UPDATE - UPDATE Here's the latest exchange with Tech Support: Hi Terry, If you like to send your units in for an evaluation you can, send a copy of your receipt and I'll send the RA#. Thanks, iHome Support =================== Gentlemen, I bought both on Amazon, I suppose I can figure out how to reprint the shipping info, but I don't have paper receipts. I also don't want to increase the financial loss on this purchase by paying for shipping. Can you send me a UPS shipping label and I'll be more than happy to send it back to you. ===================== Hi Terry, No, I can only issue a RA# the shipping cost would be covered by you as per your warranty. Thanks, iHome Support ==================== Gentlemen, So, I pay the shipping cost both ways? Any idea what that would be? My zip code is 98020. ===================== Hi Terry, No, just going we will cover it back to you. Thanks, iHome Support =========================== Gentlemen, UPS 2nd day air is going to cost me $36. That's half as much as I paid for the radio itself. So my $80 radio will end up costing me $116. And if I did that, can you guarantee me that you will resolve the problem? Or can I look forward to a message that says "It must be something wrong with your Iphone. Call Apple!" ============ Hi Terry, No, I can not guarantee anything because the model will be evaluated when we get it. Thanks, iHome Support ============ Gentlemen, No thanks, I've spent enough time and money trying to get your product to work.
