We have seen the highs... now we see the lows... someone should be fired for this junk.
Ok... so I am a walking dead fan... and have watched and followed from the beginning. But I started losing my faith in the last season sometime after Carl had the chance to blow Negan away and he just didn't. I made excuses saying things like Carl is an idiot and I never liked his character or the actor... but that aside... I was able to reconcile it because he was young. But nothing can excuse Rick and his troop when they drive right up the to the front door and have what seems like multiple minutes to shoot Negan point blank and they don't!!!!!?!?!??!?!?!?! I am sorry... the writers are ascribing way to much mental and/or supernatural power in this one guy. Rick and his team were shooting from cover (flimsy cover albeit cover)... and had him clear at what was maybe 25 meters. At that distance 5.56 groupings over iron sites are centimeters wide not inches... I.E. people with practice don't miss. That whole team on the rampart should have been decimated by Rick alone once the shooting started... you just can't outrun high velocity rounds. And then there is the tin roofing they welded to the cars. Even if it was steel, it was maybe an 1/8th of an inch thick. That stuff would have been swiss cheese in a fire fight. Again... high velocity rounds from 5.56 and 7.62 go through half inch thick steel... at 100 meters. At best it would have confused the enemy but as cover... not good enough. I am just disappointed. It was clearly meant to be a desperate attempt to create some kind of big 'shock and awe' season premier to set the tone for what was to come. They should have killed Negan in the first 5 minutes and moved us on... his character is old hat now... He is not believable anymore. Negan's power came from the strength of his numbers and not him. He is physically not impressive. With what we have seen Rick do over the course of 100 episodes... Negan is an old man... with a baseball bat. And what were they aiming at in the windows? Were we meant to assume that Negan's forces were all up there behind plate glass firing down? I missed the context for that. I assumed they were factory windows and there was nobody behind the glass but perhaps I am wrong. Sorry folks... I think this train has left the tracks. Will probably continue watching because I am that sad and pathetic but the premiere was lack luster and did not hold a candle to the Brain Bashing episode or the Sophia Barn episode... the writers are grasping at straws now. They need some new blood in there. Add to that the cryptic flash forwards and backs to the triumvirate speeches on the pick up truck and you get flaky all around... not worthy of the historic walking dead chronicles. Someone please restore my confidence and offer me an explanation with even a modicum of plausibility to help me find my way back.
