Every year I look forward to Daniel Silva's new book. When I read the synopsis of The Order I had a feeling that this year's book would be one long slander of Christians and the Bible. I should have trusted my initial impression. We seem to live in a time when so many see absolutely everything as cynical political calculation. And I think we have to admit that followers of Christ are a hated out-group and favorite villain of today's authors. I'm sad and sorry that this year's Gabriel Allon thriller is just doing what everybody else seems to be doing rather than giving us something fresh and entertaining. Christ died to save sinners. That is the gospel.
