Wide enough to fit our lazy boy recliners. The table top where it grips the horizontal bar is loose and slips off easily after 4 months of normal use on both tables. The material is discolored and seems weak. We have an original table mate that has lasted aound 10 years with no trouble which is why we spent this much to get two XL's. The fact that Table-Mate has not responded to the email through Amazon for 18 days now and that there is no number to call Table-Mate to report this obvious defect will prevent us from purchasing from them again.
