Much less range than advertised, terrible customer support
I want to love this scooter... But I just can't. The pricing and looks are both good, but the range per charge and customer service from Swagtron are very bad. The basic disappointment: Trying to stick to facts as much as I can here. I weigh 190lbs and my daily commute with this product is mostly flat ground. On a flat surface I can get up to 16mph on the first half of the battery charge. The speed drops to about 13mph on the second half of the battery charge. I am only able to average about 4 miles per charge before the scooter battery starts to die mid-ride requiring me to turn the scooter off and back on again to get another quarter of a mile of range. To solve for the severe lack of range, I bought a second charger from Swagtron. I charge the scooter at home so I can get to work in the morning and then I charge it at work so I can get home in the evening. In two months, I am already beginning to see deterioration in the above speed and range. I have no doubt that after averaging 30-35 miles per week over the next 6 months, I will be unable to get 3 miles or total range on a charge which will make the unit useless without a (hopefully) warranty-eligible replacement of the battery. The bigger issue: I recently got a flat rear tire on my scooter. This scooter has a bike-like tire with outer rubber tire and inflatable inner-tube. I have gone back and forth with Swagtron several times via email and this is a list of the suggestions made, none of which are reasonable, actionable, or economical. 1) Swagtron does not have replacement tires or tire inner tubes available to send out. 2) The tires on my unit are "specifically designed to fit Swagtron brand units" and therefore Swagtron was unwilling to provide tire specifications so I could attempt to find a third-party provider to source a replacement. 3) Swagtron was unwilling to provide instructions on how to safely remove the rear wheel so I could diagnose and potentially patch the inner tube if it's not too bad of a leak. 4) If I were to send the unit back for replacement, Swagtron was clear that I needed to send the entire 25lb scooter to their location in Indiana for repair. I am not allowed to just send the wheel to them to perform the repair. 5) Swagtron is unable to provide an estimate for the cost of parts to replace the tire. Labor is a flat $60 fee regardless of bench time or complexity of the fix. All in, the only option offered was to ship and insure the entire unit to Swagtron ($100+), allow them to repair the tire (~$20 parts, $60 flat fee labor), and ship the unit back to me. All on a minimum 2-4 week transit and repair delay for a fix that would take an hour with a part that costs a few dollars to source. Major lack of range and inability to effectively support purchases make this scooter a hard no. I would not recommend this product and think it's worth spending an extra $100-$200 to go with a similar model type with a different company. Pros - my kitten likes the scooter.
