★★☆☆☆
Bottom line: spend an extra $8-$10 on something better
These mitts are ok. They perform well for what they are, especially for the price, but part of me wishes I'd bought something a bit nicer, since these feel pretty cheap when using them.
The Pros:
- they insulate decently well and are suitable for taking hot things out of the oven (but I wouldn't hold something heavy/hot for more than 15 seconds)
- long collar length for the forearms
- silicone is grippy (almost too grippy)
- cheap solution
The Cons:
- they are quite large around the hand area, and I'm a male with average hands. The thumb section feels especially large, making for an awkward grip
- the first issue is even more exaggerated by the fact that the internal quilted layer and the external silicone layer are not fixed together throughout, so you can feel your hand gripping the internal quilting but it just floats freely and rubs inside the much less mailable silicone layer
- the silicone layer is so "sticky" against other surfaces that it actually becomes very difficult to clean. It likes to cling onto anything, and even scrubbing it in the sink and drying with a towel leaves tons of lint and other debris streak-marks on it, making it very unattractive, especially in the black color I bought. It would work much better as more matte silicone surface.
Bottom line, the more I write this review, the less inclined I feel to go easy on these mitts. I realize they were cheap, but I guess my advice is to spend an extra $8-$10 on something better. I want to enjoy my tools in the kitchen, and whenever I have to reach for these mitts, I always end up feeling disappointed.
