A low-quality knock-off of Peak Design's bag
This bag is a cheap rip-off of the Peak Design Everyday Sling (which I've owned for several years). It's made from cheaper-feeling materials, and it lacks some of the important functionality that Peak Design's bag has to offer. Here's a list of all of the shortcomings I've noticed with this product:
Amazon Basics Everyday Sling vs. Peak Design Everyday Sling (see pics for reference)
Exterior:
Cheap plastic zip pulls. PD sling has Hypalon zip pulls.
Front pocket has no zipper hood, meaning rain exposure. PD's front pocket is protected.
Strap only has 1 point of adjustment. PD's sling has 3 points of adjustment, which make it much easier to get the bag to fit properly.
Excess strap webbing dangles and flops around. PD's strap ends tuck neatly into the back of the bag.
Cheap plastic buckle. PD's bag has an aluminum clasp.
Fabric feels rougher. PD's bag feels smoother and more water resistant.
Less padding in top handle. PD's bag has a more robust top handle.
No Capture attachment point. PD's bag has 2 spots to attach a Capture clip for carrying your camera on the outside of your bag, huge if you plan to use this bag for active shooting.
Interior :
Fabric not very soft, and not stretchy at all. PD's bag is lined with a strechy, uber-soft fabric. Better for storing small stuff like SD cards and batteries, and protecting your camera gear inside.
Metal internal zipper pull that will scratch your camera gear potentially. PD bag has Hypalon zipper pulls that won't do that.
"FlexFold" dividers are floppy and not covered in soft fabric. PD invented FlexFold dividers, which fold to produce shelves and cubbies for storage. These dividers don't fold, they flop. And they're covered in cheap nylon that feels scratchy to the touch compared to PD's dividers.
No magnetic clasp on tablet sleeve. PD's bag has a magnet that holds the sleeve shut.
No pull tabs on side pockets. PD's bag has hypalon pull tabs on the inner side pockets for easier access.
Other:
PD bags have a lifetime guarantee, this doesnt.
PD bags are made from recycled, Bluesign-approved materials. They're also 100% carbon neutral. I assume this bag has none of those things.
Bottom line:
For me, price is not the only thing that matters. I want something well-designed, well-made, responsibly-made, and that will last me a long time. You can go cheap and get this bag, but it'll only be a matter of time before you wish you had gotten the real deal.
