A swing... and a miss
Seemed like a good purchase, lots of power in a mini ITX board. Reinforced pcie slot, full of heatsinks and dedicated chipset fan (which is quiet). Full 8 stage powerphase, and all the IO you could hope for out of a board this size. Problems: 1. The first M.2 is mounted right above the heatsink for the board chipset. Using a pcie m.2 gen4 there (which is the biggest reason to upgrade from x470), is a catastrophic oversight by Gigabyte. You are asking for a drive failure. Temps were 50c idle, and approached 76c max under load. 2. The second M.2 is behind the board. It seems pretty common for mini-ITX these days, but you cant really use an effective heatsink, and how many cases have lots of airflow behind the mobo anyways? 3. There is only one usb 2.0 connector. If you plan to use an Aio with Link-type of capabilities, say goodbye to your lightning node, fan controllers, and other bling. 4. The powerphase heatsink is more for looks than effectiveness. In testing, temps only rose by 5c on average without it. 5. There are insufficent fan headers to cool likely builds (utilizing mini-ITX). One of them is dedicated to the chipset/ M.2 contraption, and the other for your CPU fan. This leaves you only one header for case fans. And since #3 in this list limits your options for expandability... 6. The drivers are terrible. I tried downloading and installing them directly from Gigabyte, and had nothing but trouble. I even tried to install them off the CDROM included in the package (who has optical drives these days?), and they failed to install as well. After hours of scouring the web, I finally found the correct drivers for *most* of what I needed. 7. The Aorus/Gigabyte monitoring software leaves lots to be improved upon. I ended up uninstalling it and going with more traditional third-party software. 8. The BIOS isn't a bad UEFI experience, but I did get a BIOS version 7 months outdated (3 updates since). I had some troubles enabling XMP profiles. The overall experience just didn't feel that intuitive. Overall, I feel like Gigabyte rushed this board out without putting a whole lot of thought into it. The driver support is unexcusable for tech at this pricepoint. There aren't many options for X570 in this form factor, but there are more now than when I bought it. Maybe take a peek at some of those.
