Big Let Down
I was excited about this product. I did my homework, I read the reviews, I watched the videos. I had plenty of Visa points, so I figured I'd give it a shot. I took it out of the box the day I got it and tested it in a dark room. It lit right up with a flip of the switch and both settings worked beautifully. The next evening I set it up in the yard and hit the switch -- nothing. I flipped the switch back and forth to both settings -- nothing. I pulled it out of the ground, inspected it carefully, then gave it a shake, then the lights came on. So I put it back in the ground, and positioned it properly and the lights looked beautiful on the house. I called out my family to see the lights and then switched it off so that I could switch it back on when they came outside. When they came out, I flipped the switch -- NOTHING. Again, I had to pull it out of the ground and shake it to make the lights come back on. (Now, before all of you 'know-it-all's chime in to tell me it doesn't work unless it is in complete darkness...please read the beginning of my post. I did my homework, I am well aware of how this product works.) So after embarrassing myself in front of my family by shooting a blank with a faulty Star Shower, I pulled it back out of the ground, gave it a good shake, it lit up and I placed it back in its spot in my front yard. It stayed lit all night, and went off on its own the next morning. Cool. (keep reading)
The next evening, my wife came home late (well after dark) and asked me how to turn on the Star Shower. (Although not surprised) I told her it should have turned on automatically once it got dark out. Nope. I went out side, pulled it out of the ground, gave it a shake -- NOTHING. I flipped the switch back and forth three or four times, gave it a few more shakes, then just red lights came on. Just RED. There is no setting for just RED. So I brought it inside. Took it into a VERY dark room, plugged it in, set the switch to Red and Green, GAVE IT A SHAKE, and ..... just RED lights. So I then flipped the switch to Green and put the lens very close to the wall. There they were ... very faint tiny green lights barely visible. I then remembered reading something about the product that if it is below 30 degrees outside, the product may take up to 10 minutes to warm up. So I let it sit for a few minutes and I noticed that the dim green dots were slowly growing brighter. At that same moment, I realized that it was 40 degrees outside. So what was the excuse? In few minutes the lights were nice and bright again. So I unplugged it, brought it back out to the front yard, pushed it into the ground and flipped the switch -- NOTHING. Right about now you should be feeling my frustration, and this was only Day 2. So, once again, I pulled it out of the ground, GAVE IT A SHAKE, the lights came on and I placed it back in the ground and positioned the beautiful lights on the house. Again, the lights stayed on all night.
The next morning I neatly placed the Star Shower back in it's package for return shipping.
I really like the effects that this product creates. I really do. But at a $40-$50 value, I shouldn't be having doubts about the product's quality on Day 2. Further, nothing in the product description told me that every day I would have to disconnect the device, pull it out of the ground, bring it into my house to warm it up, then bring it back to the front yard, SHAKE IT to get it to turn on, push it back into the ground, and then re-position it to look good on my house - every day!
Maybe I just got a defective item. I would like to believe that is the case. I would be willing to exchange this one for another, just to see if by some chance a second try would be different. But it does not seem that Amazon offers exchanges. Only refunds. Hopefully I will get my Visa points back.
