Bests & Worsts Reviews from Amazon

I bought this book based on the fantastic 5-star reviews that were given on Amazon. I now realize that the reviewers must be friends of the author or do not read much. Otherwise there is no way this book would receive 5 stars. The idea behind the story itself is pretty interesting. A strong, capable heroine who's been through the war has ticked off an enemy that is out for revenge. There's potential here for a great book. But then the story begins unfolding and unraveling, and by that I mean the story makes no sense. Character development is one-dimensional and introductions are haphazard, descriptions are incomplete, and the story has no flow. It is so rough and choppy that I fought to read it, and finally gave up. The book never really explains why the central character is referred to as The Fey, why there is hero-worship around the character, and never truly explains the cataclysmic event that started the entire book (and please don't tell me that I need to finish the book. I would rather scrub my eyes with salt that finish this book) and its significance to the main characters. The books keeps rambling on and on and on. And I beg to differ from the person who titled the book. This is by no means a thriller. It's a thrill to finally decide not to read the book. The way this book is written is almost script-style, as if the author intended the book to actually be a script for a movie rather than a book. If that is the case, the author/scriptwriter might have a chance at making this into a movie. There are a lot of bad movies being made, after all. I would have given this mess of a novel one star, except that the story idea has potential. I think the author would be served well by a good editor (which I am not, obviously . . .) who could clean up and tighten the story arc.
