STONECOAT COUNTERTOP EPOXY SUCKS, WILL NEVR HARDEN ENOUGH TO NOT MARK UP.
CONTRACTOR FOR OR 25 YEARS
I watched over 30 Stonecoat Countertop videos over a period of month's. Been using numerous epoxy resins for at least 6 years now. Was very impressed with the advertised heat resistance of Stonecoat epoxy, plus the training videos are very exciting.
I finally bit the bullet for Stonecoat art resin at $115 gallon. Got a large enough amount to experiment with.
I called and asked many questions, then decided on the art coat because it's compatible with acrylic paint pouring and alcohol inks.
I stressed that I would be doing bar countertops and tables that would be getting high usage. I was advised that the art coat was as sturdy and heat resistant as their other epoxy.
Got the product in. Had a large table sanded and prepped. Had the basement dehumidifier on for 3 days before pour. No dust. Temps and humidity were spot on then poured intial layer with pigments. IT'S GORGEOUS!
Followed directions totally and did top coat.
One stray fly got me! The way they advertise their product, I was surprised that I couldn't remove and polish out, but was told that I would have to recoat entire piece. Not happy.
Recoated totally per specs. Beautiful and perfect!
Waited 7 days for cure...
Set a coffee mug on it... IT MARKED UP
Waited 30 days...
Set a coffee mug on it... IT MARKED UP!
Waited 60 days...
Set a coffee mug on it... IT STILL MARKED UP.
During that period, I left a message on their youtube page... NO RESPONSE
I called and left indepth message and the guy who called back and left a message hadn't even listened to my message.
Then I emailed...
MY EMAIL...
"I left a message that I had purchased a gallon of your art resin, had the temps and humidity perfect. Tabletop has been finished over 2 months and still marks up. It's gorgeous, just not usable.
I can sit a glass on it and within 10-15 minutes it will leave an indention. Over the period of a few hours it will ease back out.
I've used Famowood and 3 other resins over a period of 6 years and am familiar with the process. I was attracted to the advertised heat resistance and toughness of your product and would really like to complete my project by sanding and recoating my table with the tough product that you advertise.
The resin is bad and I have a lot of work in this table (hours) and still can't sell it.
Thank God I didn't do a countertop for a customer with this.
How can you help me out with this bad gallon of resin that I have?
Please contact me asap."
STONECOAT COUNTERTOP RESPONSE...
"Most epoxy gets quite brittle with age; our product will give slightly to allow for this movement. With that said, our hardness still allows for polishing. If an epoxy is too soft it won't shine again when polishing. This balance is important. Objects will
leave impressions, but the impressions will come out in room temperature once the object is removed. The epoxy has "memory" and will level back. To expedite this you can apply a blow dryer to the area. As the material continues to cure it will become harder
but it's designed to retain some of this quality so it makes it possible to pour over a wood, and laminate surface. We believe our formulation is second to none for the purposes we show on our videos."
CONCLUSION...
WHAT THEY ARE STATING IS THAT THEIR EPOXY NEVER HARDENS ENOUGH NOT TO MARK UP!
GET OUT THE HAIRDRYER EVERY TIME YOU SET SOMETHING ON YOUR COUNTERTOP 🙄
UNBELIEVABLE.
The rest of the email was condescending and treated me like an idiot with no experience. Must be the woman thing?
DO NOT BUY STONECOAT COUNTERTOP EPOXY!
They will not guarantee it when IT IS A BAD MATERIAL!
AT MINIMAL IT SOUNDS LIKE YOU'LL NEED TO KEEP A HAIR DRYER IN YOUR KITCHEN FROM NOW ON. SAD.
