The first one of these, I purchased, split at the seems after less than a month--I am 5' 10" and weight 175 lbs so I don't believe it was my fault. The company was nice and replaced it free of charge (though they had me send the defective one back which is kind of disgusting). The replacement lasted eleven months before the hinges snapped in half and I had to replaced the seat with a new one. Unfortunately, though I like the seat, I wouldn't buy this product again. Never have I had to replace two toilet seats in a year.
