I had done a specific Amazon search for self-watering hanging baskets. And to their credit a page popped up with numerous choices. Most were smaller than I'd hoped, but these were big and came as a pair - I hit the buy now button and never looked further. These were a gift for a gardener friend who'd been complaining about keeping things watered during our Midwestern heat and drought and when I explained that they would self-water we both tried to figure out how that worked. What we quickly discovered is that these are just hanging pots, nothing more. They had no business being shown alongside choices that were self-watering, but there they were. The lesson here is never assume that Amazon will show you only the item type you're searching for. I'd been tricked into buying something I did not want by its being displayed as part of my search. To add insult to injury, these are also not inexpensive for what they are, and neither are they of high quality. They're just big plastic baskets with rope hangers, not much better than what you'd get a box store every spring - and those generally have plants in them.
