Mixed feelings on this switch
I have mixed feelings about this switch, on one side it is pretty good looking switch, capacitive touch surface works really smooth and is very responsive to touch, installation and pairing was very easy, i used the Elgato eve app to pair and the home app recognized the configuration instantly so far so good. Now the things i don't like so much, some times it is very quick but some others it takes like 5 or 7 seconds to turn on or off (more responsive than unresponsive though), the think that you have to take in mind is that it uses bluetooth to connect (you can't get the best of two worlds here) since it is bluetooth there is no need of a hub like the wifi ones but that limits the range of this switch, in a clear open area i can get up to 15~20 meters range, but with a closed door it takes 2~5 meters to respond that means when i am outside in my car (street door and room door closed) and 10 meters away it is impossible to make it respond, this is more energy efficient than a wifi switch but it sacrifices range over that. Another thing that they can improve is that the app won't recognize in a logical matter the state of the switch, i.e. the app can tell you light is on or off yes!, but if you have a scene like when i arrive at home turn the lights on, and if the lights are turned on already i would expect them to remain on, but the app just send a signal to change the current state, that means that if the light is turned on and i order to turn the light on it will turn off (logical error! T & T = F). (BUG SOLVED AFTER FIRMWARE UPDATE) UPDATE April 2019... Well after 2 years and almost 5 months the switch died, lifespan related it means it cost me $22.20 per year, considering that a mere $3 switch can last up to 20 years (15 cents per year), Elgato should improve their lifespan standards to at least 5 years, of course we are talking about tech hardware here, but i have some devices like my old dvd which has been plunged in for 14 years and running strong to this days i think Elgato can do better than 2.4 years. Another thing on behalf of Elgato after a firmware update they solve de issue with some logical bugs. An one last thing, in my experience the fist year was normal but after that sometimes this switches are a total pain (60% of time), response times took up to 1 minute, or sometimes completely unresponsive, even after manually reseting it, still on doubt if it's related to the home kit app or the hardware i have 3 (2 working now) switches and they all have the same behavior. Now i am going to try a tp link wifi switch hoping it will be a more reliable and responsive switch.
