Disappointing
I purchased this Epson WF 4830 printer to replace a nightmare HP printer. My hope was that this would be the printer that would work for me and that would be that. I use Epson scanners and video projectors and I love them. This printer? Wrong. So disappointed. First, I realized that I was a slave to Epson OEM printer inks (expensive). Epson not only chips their ink cartridges, but they put serial numbers on them as well. You cannot refill the cartridge nor can you use aftermarket inks. You must use Epson inks or nothing. Buy two sets of ink and you have repurchased the printer. Then I learned that the printer was an ink hog. I went through two sets of xl ink plus the ink that came with the printer for just 1,200 pages. Not good at all. Now for the printer itself. I would load it with paper and try to print. I would get a message that said, “Load paper in the tray”. This happened repeatedly. Maybe, after playing with the paper for four or five tries, it would print. This would happen with either tray. I would try to print card stock after selecting card stock on paper choices and it would not print. And jams? Oh yes. It loved to jam. In the end, this printer turned out to be a bigger nightmare than the HP it replaced. The bottom line is that I cannot afford this printer in terms of ink cost or productivity. Sorry Epson, great scanners and video projectors, but I will NEVER buy an Epson printer again and I will work hard to dissuade anyone who is considering purchasing an Epson printer.
