Like nothing you've ever tried
I consider myself somewhat of a chip connoisseur. Salty, sweet, vinegar, spicy, homemade, name brand, gourmet label, corn, potato, sweet potato, oven baked or kettle cooked, it don't matter to me. I enjoy the texture and crunch far more than a person has a right to. So when I saw this new flavor sitting on the shelf at the store, it was unusual and intriguing enough that I knew I needed to give it a try. What is contained in a bag of Lays Cappuccino potato chips can't rightly be described as your typical snack experience. It is, in fact, an abomination to all that is good and right about chips. The nose of the product is pleasant-ish. It kind of reminds you of those coffee scented candles you find in the clearance aisle of the dollar store with a coffee like fragrance combined with something you can't quite identify. It's the first red flag as to what you're about to imbibe. As you pick the chip out of the bag, you'll notice a fine granular feel, not unlike the sensation of filtering cold ashes from a long dormant campfire through your hands. It's just not quite right. As it turns out, this is apparently the taste engineers at Lays giving you one final tactile warning before you subject yourself to the flavor onslaught that is about to occur. Never let it be said that Lays doesn't care about their customers. So what does Lays Cappuccino potato chips actually taste like? Imagine you took a cup of instant coffee crystals and mixed it in with about 20 of those pink Sweet & Lo packets you find at a restaurant, add about a half a cup of raw powder cinnamon, and some powdered milk. Mix those dry ingredients well and then dump them straight into your mouth and start chewing. Yeah, it's crunchy, but by the time you realize that eating such a concoction was a terrible idea, it's simply too late. The chips immediately lay waste to your salvia glands. Your mouth will instantly turn into a drought plagued coffee dusted wasteland in which your taste buds have no recourse but to slog through the inhumane conditions brought on by this product. Cotton mouth has got nuthin' on Lays Cappuccino mouth. The fun doesn't stop there. The brutal assault of the coffee gives way to a secondary attack of sweeteners and by the time the cinnamon hits, it's all but over for your poor taste receptors. They have put up the white flag and sent word ahead to your throat that dark times are eminent. Good luck swallowing this confectionery mess. The bottom line is this is a flavor apocalypse, a taste experiment that tragically escaped from the laboratory, the snack thing that should not be. I was going to give it away, but then I decided this is the type of gift that creates enemies and I don't want anyone to hate me that badly. Consume this product at your own culinary peril.
