Does not provide protection consistent with the Defender-line
This is nothing more than a slip-on sleeve. NO screen protection and NO snap-together case covered by a resilient, silicone shell. There is a thin layer of foam inside a semi-rigid plastic. The silicone outer-layer is molded to the plastic. The only thing that is going to hold your phone inside this case is the slight curve at the top and botton of the semi-rigid plastic. This is nothing like the heavy-duty Defender-series that most people are familiar with.
Notice that despite the lower level of protection, you still get the premium price that Otterbox used to correlate with protection.
I have purchased 9 defender-series cases for 7 devices over the past 3 years. Otterbox seems to be going backwards with their cases. I accepted the poor cover design with their Galaxy Tab S (The cover snap-tabs did not easily align, and it was easy to accidentally break one); however, this is ridiculous. I can picture my phone popping out of its case if it gets accidently dropped.
When I first researched and pre-ordered these, I was told, "It has a screen protector, but you can remove it and use a different, separate protector." What a lie. I have canceled my pre-order for two of the more colorful cases that have a later release date. As for the two that arrived today, they are going back tomorrow .!.!.!.!.
Maybe Otterbox will update this flawed design at a later date, but until then, this does not live up to the level of protection that first attracted me to Otterbox Defenders. Maybe they will simply downgrade it to a series that offers lower protection, but this is not a Defender.
I'll update this if I find another case that offers the protection normally associated with Otterbox Defenders. Right now "Lifeproof" is looking really good, but they don't seem to have a firm release date yet. You can, however, sign up for an email notification on their Web site. Until then, I will get some gorilla-type glass and a UAG or Speigel armor, and be extra cautious until better protection is available.
EDIT: I see the description has been updated to say "new screenless design," but notice the decrease in materials does not come with a decrease in price. Product loyalty is one thing, but I will not blindly throw away money. As another reviewer pointed out, the Otterbox Alpha glass screen protector will cost you almost as much as this sleeve (I will not call this a case). That means to even get near the Defender-series level of protection, you have to spend TWICE as much money.
Otterbox should be ashamed to include this in their Defender line.
