Feeder drops a handful of seed into the dirt everytime a bird flies away
My Mom has this feeder and it works great, so it’s possible my experience is just a fluke, but I figured I’d still mention it. The birds loved the feeder, but when I tried to adjust the tension so that the crows wouldn’t be able to use it, I found that there was no happy medium that both allowed the cardinals to access the food and prevented the crows from getting it, so that was frustrating. The major issue, however, is that something was faulty with the feeder that caused it to lose tons of seed everytime the birds flew off of the ring. I didn’t notice at first; the seed seemed to disappear at a reasonable pace for the first week or so. Then by the next week it was 3/4 of the way gone, which I thought seemed quick because only a few birds had noticed the feeder up to that point. I filled it back up, and within a few days the feeder was completely empty. I couldn’t understand what was happening until I noticed that all the seed seemed to be all over my lawn directly underneath the feeder, mixed in with the mud and mulch. I went back over the manual making sure I had followed every instruction correctly, but could not find any evidence of pilot error. I tried again with the rest of the bird seed I had, and noticed that everytime the birds flew away a handful of seed would drop out of the feeder. The birds happily ate the seed off of the lawn, but I didn’t pay $90 for the birds to chow down in the grass. By the time I figured out the flaw it was too late to return the item, so now I’m out nearly 100 bucks and I still don’t have a bird feeder. Naturally I’m pretty frustrated.
