Don’t want political views woven into my entertainment
I usually love Lucy Score books but I could not get past all of the disparaging remarks about police in this book. I understand that part of the story line has to do with “bad cops” so when I was tempted to delete the book from my Kindle at the 50% mark, I read on. My problem was not that there were “bad cops”, it was that it was inferred that was the norm for law enforcement. The character Nick ( a former police officer) states how every department has bad cops. When the graffiti laden state of the neighborhood is described, police are blamed for that as well. I am probably extra sensitive to this having over 25 years in law enforcement and coming from a law enforcement family. I know all the hard work the men of women of law enforcement do in this often thankless job and how it is popular at the moment to discredit the police. I deleted the book from my Kindle at the 80% mark because I couldn’t take anymore. It is also obvious where the author’s political leanings lie because the villains of the book are referred to often as having fake tans and there is a comment about how many orange tanned lunatics can we have around running things. The author is entitled to express political views, I personally just don’t want to have them constantly referenced in something that I am reading for escapism. There are also continuous references to “farts” which seemed rather juvenile to me.
