Painful to use: like using Fire Tablet after Oasis
The first unit could not power on and could not charge. Sent it back for replacement. The second unit works. A bit background. I am coming off Kindle Oasis 2 which battery started to degrade and because it is water proof of course is not replaceable. First impression, despite having only 4096 colors, it does still make a difference. For older geeks, it is like going from monochromatic screen to Amiga 500. Yes, it could be 16.7M but we are not there yet. 100 dpi on color is very noticeable but it is limitation of the technology and not Pocketbook's fault. So what's the issue with this unit: SOFTWARE Despite what the manufacturer says, it is SEVERELY underpowered. Their claim that it runs LINUX and it needs only 2 cores it is a big boloney. Try to delete multiple books: PAINFUL Try to adjust font of the book: PAINFUL and a lot of times it ends up in a blank screen Turning pages is LAGGY but survivable Basically anything that has to do with navigation is very PAINFUl. Search: PAINFUL Accessing read menu: PAINFUL and inconsistent. HARDWARE: I do like the size 7.8 inches. Lack of button on the side is OK but I would prefer buttons like in Kindle/Inkbook etc. I do like the weight. I do like SD Card My number one issue is that uneven light bleed on the top of the screen. You can also see each individual lights when you look from the side. It looks very amateurish in comparison to Kindle. You would think that the company that has been around for the last 10 years would figure it that out. Also ambient light detection works very poorly. I woke up 6AM and I wanted to read something. It did turn on in the dark and the lowest light setting. I could not see anything, had to reboot the device. So what should Pocketbook do in the next version - Add octacore processor - Add better backlight that does not bleed - Add custom fonts - Add inverted screen/dark mode - Add physical buttons on the side - Fix ambient light detection - Fix accessing read menu because it often triggers highlight. Swipe down would be better. But number one, you are charging a massive premium on the device. Get feedback from people that use these devices 24/7. It takes 10 minutes to figure out that this product is not good. Also GoodEReader gave it 4.5 stars out of 5. I know the guy has a vested interest in selling devices but this is just flat out disingenuous. BOTTOM LINE: This device is like going from Amazon Kindle Oasis to Amazon Fire Tablet. If you ever used it, you know how painful that Fire Table is. I don't recommend it. Sorry for any typos, English is my 3rd language. Hope it helps.
