First, a moderate issue, is that they tell you the best way to download their app is to scan the QR code. Well, that doesn't work so you are on your own to find it.
The major issue is the app, which is the reason I bought this particular scale.
Once I downloaded the app, and opened it, it wanted me to create an account using my email and a password. This always annoys me. The only reason apps want this information is for their benefit, not yours. So I thought I would read their privacy policy before I did anything foolish.
In the (poorly written) privacy policy I found the following:
>>In the following circumstances, we will provide your personal information to the relevant third parties:
Some services of this application should be provided or jointly provided by a partner such as a company that provides technical services, a transportation company, a mailing company, a company that offers prizes, etc. In order to provide you with such services, it’s necessary for this application to share your personal information with the partners.<<
Basically they will give out any information to anyone.
That was enough for me so I will not create an account. I didn't remove the app and about 2 hours later I got the alert on my screen (photo attached). Without even creating an account this company was trying to mine my data covertly. I never agreed to anything.
Obviously I removed the app.
My opinion is that the scale is strictly a vehicle to obtain data which to share/sell. AVOID at all cost, unless you want all of the data it obtains (just think about all of the health data it obtains) being distributed.
