Breville races past AT&T to win #1 spot for worst customer service on the planet
We were really excited to get the sous chef after our 30 yr. old Cuisinart started circling the drain. It's really nice looking, and it worked great for about 5 times. Then the bowl started leaking because a crack developed where the gear housing comes up from the center of the bowl. OK, well I've only had it about 90 days, I'm sure it won't be a problem. The FIRST TIME I called Breville, I was ON HOLD FOR 46 MINUTES before someone answered the phone. When I asked what their problem was, and why didn't they have any employees to answer the phone, I was told that the wait was long because it was Monday morning. Then they told me they would happily replace my bowl under warranty, but the MIXING BOWLS WERE OUT OF STOCK FOR A MONTH. About a month later, I still hadn't received my new bowl yet. So I called Breville a SECOND TIME, this time on a Wednesday afternoon, and I waited ON HOLD FOR 1 HOUR AND 5 MINUTES before some poor slob decided to answer the phone. I was so infuriated that I had to waste two hours of my time on hold because of the complete arrogance of this company, I swore right then and there that I would never purchase another Breville product as long as I lived. It's been SIX WEEKS since my bowl cracked and I STILL DO NOT HAVE A NEW BOWL, and no one knows when they are coming in. This is the sorriest excuse of a customer service department that I have ever seen. Not only that, judging by the unprecedented amount of time I had to spend on hold listening to an endless loop of completely annoying Muzak before someone even answered the friggin telephone, this company either has an incredibly high failure rate of their products, or they have a severely deficient management team. But to NOT ANSWER THE PHONE and then NOT HAVE THE MIXING BOWL IN STOCK FOR OVER A MONTH is just stupid and inexcusable, especially when your $400 sous chef is MADE IN CHINA.
UPDATE: It has now been OVER FOUR MONTHS and I still have not received my replacement bowl. Are you SERIOUS? For sure, Breville has replaced ATT as the worst customer service in the universe. I waited on hold for ONLY 38 MINUTES to be told that the bowl would be delivered in a couple of weeks, but as I mentioned above, it's already been over four months, so I knew they were just lying to me again. I finally demanded a refund for this worthless piece of garbage. Breville. Never again.
UPDATE: I finally received my replacement bowl. It was almost six months before they finally got them back in stock again. Breville did replace the bowl under warranty. I was so exasperated, Breville agreed to refund my purchase for the unit and as the transaction was being processed, they notified me that they had finally received the replacement bowls. I was ambivalent about the entire situation, because on the one hand, when the unit is working, it's absolutely fabulous. On the other hand, it was inexcusable that I had to wait 6 months for a replacement bowl when Breville was already on notice that there was an issue with the bowl cracking down where the chuck goes through the middle of the bowl. So I decided to purchase a second replacement bowl as well, so that at least I would have a back up if the new one cracked, because this really is the best unit on the market for the price. It has a 4hp motor, for one thing. So, I ended up giving Breville a reprieve and I will try it again. But seriously, if you know you need replacement parts for a design defect in one of your more popular models, it was incumbent upon whoever is in charge of those things to get on top of the situation and not make people wait six months for parts. That's just stupid.
