Purchased and tested 100
I purchased 100 of these to supply light to a refugee camp in Northwest Africa. There are 80 tents housing roughly 10 people each. I do not represent a big NGO with money to spare so bang for the buck was important. I personally tested each one before distribution. I paid for the more expensive model that promises 8 hrs of light after a 5 hour charge in the sun. Out of 100: 8 had weak batteries that would last less than an hour even when charged with a dc charger and 2 did not function at all. So a 10% failure rate out of the box. That is not good but i have seen worse and bought 20 extras just in case. The lamps themselves (that work) are as promised and when fully charged, last through the night and are plenty bright. The problem is that the solar panels that come with them and promise to charge them in 5 hours are garbage. Left them out for a full day in cloudless sun and they provided 2 hrs of light. My understanding is, that means the batteries will never get fully charged in the refugee camp as they need them each night and will have a really short life span. I usually give sellers an opportunity to replace faulty products. What would be the point in this case? I tested 100, they appear to be all this way. I am 3,000 miles away and a return would be impossible. 800 refugees sitting in the dark. You get 1 star.
