Certified by the asthma allergy foundation in CANADA and does omit ozone
First of all its a nice little unit for the price but decided to return after gathering information directly from Fellowes and the Mayo Clinic. This unit does omit ozone (plasmaTrue technology) and is product certified by the Asthma Allergy Foundation IN CANADA ( NOT THE US) per Fellowes. Mayo Clinic states " Despite manufacturers' claims, ozone air purifiers don't remove asthma triggers from the air. In fact, inhaled ozone can make asthma worse. Ozone generators sold as air purifiers intentionally produce the gas ozone. Ozone can mask odors by changing the chemical composition of particles or other gasses in the air, making the air seem fresher and cleaner. However, ozone generators don't actually filter out the small particles that trigger asthma. Inhaling ozone, even in small amounts, can irritate the lungs. Specific effects may include throat irritation, coughing, chest pain and shortness of breath, as well as an increased risk of respiratory infections." Fellowes Customer Service states that PlasmaTrue Technology does omit ozone but you can turn that feature off by touching the blue PlasmaTrue Technology symbol but I am unable to do this on this particular unit so I will be returning and purchasing a Hepa system only per Mayo recommendation which are: " The Mayo Clinic has also found that ozone can make asthma and other respiratory problems worse and recommends against ozone generators and ionizing air purifiers that produce the molecules. Instead, people should use HEPA air purifiers, which do not emit ozone." Google mayo clinic comments on ozone air purifiers to read the full article (dated 5/2/2014). I purchased this particular air purifier because it was approved by the "asthma allergy foundation" but didn't know that the approval was per Canada instead of the US and when I did the research on why its not certified by the US foundation I found the Mayo Clinic articles where I received healthcare.
