Purchased in Dec 2016 as my son has allergies. This unit did a great job clearing dust, etc while on the low setting. Purchased a second unit for a guest room based on the original unit performance. Then this morning I noticed a distinct odor in my sons room and after sticking my nose by the purifier determined it was the culprit. Going back to reviews I found quite a few burnt circuit boards and decided to disassemble mine. That was it. See the pic. Overall very good filtration but hope you have good homeowners insurance. Both of GermGuardian purifiers are heading to the curb next trash day.
