Really?
I wonder if Hamilton has taken the time to actually re -read this series before she started A Shiver. I doubt it, and sadly neither did anyone else that worked on this book. She's addressed Merry's mortality before - Merry died, was returned from the summer lands, and fought a duel where she was unable to kill her challenger - the Queen of Air stated Merry isn't mortal anymore. But even if she is, it's complete garbage that Merry can't pass her mortality on to kill in duels, but she can by becoming her consort. It's crap and it doesn't fit in her new mantra of love conquers all. People who hate her retain their immortality, but don't love her too closely, you will certainly die. Why can Merry use her hand of blood and burst bodies wide open and they begin healing, but any of her men get hurt and they need hospitals and antibiotics? Galen was fed to the demi fey and healed as fast as they tore into him, Frost, Doyle, and Sholto the strongest that Unseelie have to offer can't heal a bullet wound? I cry bull crap. Where is the consistency? Taranis, the big bad boogie man, the rapist, the evil seelie that released the Nameless, loses his throne because his arm gets a boo boo? And we don't even get to see him lose his throne, he's deposed off scene, we're just told it happens? In a throw away scene, it's just introduced abruptly, no warning that it had happened. And he doesn't even die? Hamilton should have stopped with Cel's death. She has no love for this series or these character, and it shows.
