★☆☆☆☆
Unoriginal and Biased
This low rating is not a reflection of the distributor associated with this listing, but rather a comment on the substance of The Week. I have subscribed to The Week for going on 2 years. The only plus in my book is the real estate section -- I love seeing pictures and prices of real estate from around the country and world.... That said, I find myself flipping through the magazine in a few minutes, deriving no value from it. Basically the magazine provides you a summary of the key political, cultural events of the week -- but not in an intelligent, insightful way that might include an objective, well informed analyst/writer summarizing the event, placing it within context, and highlighting its meaning in the wider scheme of things, perhaps even offering a bit of backstory or new information. Instead you get a He Said-She Said in the form of left-right commentary....This leftist journalist says this about said issue while that conservative journalist said that. Imagine how vacuous the news is today, how ill informed our commentators, how grandstanding our politicians. These are the sources of he said-she said. The writing is also clunky -- I get the impression of a recent college grad or intern quickly gleaning maybe 20 newspapers and magazines and looking for opinions to form te he said-she said and then slapping them together. It's not a pleasant read, and by the time you get the magazine, if you have even remotely been paying attention to the news, you would already be familiar with the stories. They don't search for anything you might have missed -- they stories are obvious whose value consists on being headline grabbers. Needless to say, I won't be renewing my subscription.
