★★☆☆☆
Only one temperate; very hot container
The fryer is simple to wash, fill and use. It has a good size opening at the top and there is enough room to reduce splashes and get food in and out (which can be trickier in smaller models). The downsides are that (1) it only heats to one temperature - about 400 degrees. There is no temperature control so if your food needs 400 degrees - you're in luck. If you want fry donuts or do a fried cookie (like a rosette or a crueler), you usually need oil between 350-375 and this is too hot. Similarly, this will be too hot for some tempura or vegetable fritters. Pretty much, you can make french fries, possibly fried chicken. (2) The fry container has no insulating layer - it's a metal pot and it's 400 degrees on the outside. It's coated black so you may not realize but it's as burning hot as a metal container in a 400 degree oven. It has some small "feet" under it but I would still suggest you not put it directly on your counter top (put a hot plate or cutting board under it). If you accidentally brush or touch the outside of the fryer, you will get a blistering burn pretty much instantly. (3) It heats up EXTREMELY fast. While that can be a good thing for some, it can also be very dangerous. It's extremely hot in just a minute or two. So if you are trying to get thing set up - don't plug it in and then try to move it, even a little. Some fryers have a bit of insulation on the outside, this one does not and there are no warnings about that (just warnings about the danger of splashing grease) - which is what it s, that's their design - but be aware. Especially if you have younger ones in the kitchen who want to help or see what is going on.
