WARNING! Intuit registration is sleazy & customer service is TERRIBLE
The first thing you need to know is that, according to Intuit, you DO NOT own the software you've just bought. You only have PERMISSION TO USE the software (aka a license), by the grace of Intuit and their overseas customer service. This means a couple of things. First, they can revoke that permission at any time and your software is dead. Second, you CANNOT give or sell your software to someone else. There are only two exceptions: if you donate it to a charity or if you sell your ENTIRE business to the new owner of the software. Intuit has a "transfer of registration" form on their website, but it is just window dressing. When I tried to give my software to a friend, three separate Intuit customer service reps confirmed that they will NEVER allow you to transfer just the software to another private person (and you need to transfer the registration or Intuit support will not help you). Because they're the biggest player in the field, Intuit has also gotten quite arrogant when it comes to customer service. Other than registration questions, you're going to have to pay... and pay... and pay. You also shouldn't expect experienced computer technicians to help you. You will get overseas operators who simply read boilerplate answers from a computer screen. If you push for real solutions, expect to be told "I'm sorry, but I'm not authorized..." So, if you absolutely must own this bloatware -- bloatware being the reason I bought it, but decided not to use it and gave it to a friend -- then remember that the software is NOT actually yours to keep. And don't expect customer service. For more information, just type "Intuit complaints" into your favorite search engine. UPDATE: In the interest of fairness... After MANY WEEKS, many e-mails, (literally) hours of "conversations" (arguing with a brick wall that can only say "it is company policy...") with numerous Intuit employees and escalating this issue about as far up the ladder as you can go... An Intuit representative FINALLY fixed the problem. In fact, they said it was a simple fix and that it should never have gotten this convoluted and complex. It sounds like Intuit's "offshoring" of support and giving them only a half-dozen boilerplate answers for every problem is doing more harm than good. I'd even venture to guess that the customer service reps are rewarded for every problem they turn into a new upgrade or add-on sale, so they're DISincentivized to solve problems. But, all's well that ends well. Just be prepared to FIGHT for a proper solution -- especially if the first line of customer service reps does nothing but stonewalls.
