The bottom of this pan was defective. The first use was jasmine rice and I noticed a small dark roundish spot but thought maybe it was just a scuff. By the third or forth use it was clear that pieces of metal were coming off in my food!! Since I had two pans I just used the other one and sent the defective pan back for a new one. I can see edges around the larger spots where it looks like a layer of thin metal flaked off .. almost like pitting. This is stainless steel ... it should not pit or flake off !! Do not know enough about the process to guess what went wrong but I am guessing it must be something to do with how they sandwich that aluminum in the bottom. The return / exchange went well but I am deeply disappointed that after seeing what happened with that pan no one from Amazon or the manufacturer has contacted me to make amends for a product that caused me to ingest metal. When I get a garment with a torn seam I don't expect anything more than a replacement but when metal is released into my food I expect to hear from someone!!! I did keep the appliance and order a new replacement pot and so far no sign of issues with the metal but I really feel they should offer my money back for both!! Metal in my food!!
