Great belt, tensioners and pulleys....awfull pump
I own a shop that specialize in Honda/Acura vehicles. I always used to use OEM parts untill I was introduced to the Gates complete timing belt kit by Gates. I started selling the Gates kits as an option to OEM parts. Being a former Honda technician I knew that Gates is the OE supplier for Honda so I always thought higly about Gates products. First off the Belt looks good, pulleys are Koyo same as OEM, the hydraulic tensioner is Aisin which is same as OEM, waterpump...no stamp or anything, but hey it's Gates they make good products right???? But why the 2 star? I had an 01 Civic waterpump started leaking after 2 months...well s*** happens defective product....93 Honda Civic Waterpump started leaking after 4 months...hmmm seriously....05 Odyssey waterpump started leaking after 8 months and when I say leaking it's more like pouring on this odyssey. I still think this kit is a good value as the hydraulic timing belt tensioner is $120 at the dealer alone, I just wish that they would have used a more high quality waterpump...Nowadays I still sell the Gates kit, but I throw out the waterpump and substitute it with an OEM pump. Buy this kit, but don't use the pump. Either buy an OEM waterpump or Aisin (which makes it for Honda)
UPDATE: It's September 15 2014
I did an 09 Accord V6 last year at September 17 using this Gates kit, 1 year and 20k miles later, you guessed it the pump took a crap! STAY AWAY FROM GATES WATER PUMP, THEY ARE CHEAP CRAP!
UPDATE: It's January 2016
01 Civic towed in, no start found GATES water pump shredded to pieces, valves are bend
02 Honda Accord, barely running, found GATES water pump pulley ready to fall off the water pump assembly, results, bend valves and blown head gasket
IF YOU WOULD LIKE YOUR CAR TO KEEP RUNNING AVOID THE GATES WATER PUMP!!!!
