I mean...
So...I don't honestly know what to say.
SPOILERS AHEAD.
I want to start this out by stating that I am in NO WAY against threesomes or poly relationships in literature. Some of my favorite books have had depictions of both and when they are handled well, I truly LOVE reading them. That said...
The Joining happened. And if it had been handled with any sort of skill or grace it could have been acceptable. But at this point it feels like JLA had Casteel taken by Isbeth just so that Poppy could fall in love with Kieran while he was out of the picture. All while Cas is being tortured in a dungeon and pining for and agonizing over his beautiful/perfect wife. Poly relationships and threesomes are a real, valid, important viewpoint to have in literature. But she handled it with all the grace that Fifty Shades of Gray handled BDSM.
Why couldn't Kieran have his own person to love while still protecting Poppy and Cas?
If Kieran and Poppy are truly so close, why did the Joining have to happen for him to protect her or feel bound to her? She's already his best friend's wife and they are close in their own right, so why does that have to end in The Joining? Do all male/female friendships have to end in sex?
Where are the possessive, ride-or-die-for-only-each-other Cas and Poppy that we spent 1800 pages reading about up until this point?
What kind of person has sex with someone they view as a brother/sister?
What kind of person has an emotional affair with someone while their husband is imprisoned (again) by a woman who has a known track record of imprisonment and rape?
All questions I asked myself at the end of this book. All questions that (in my opinion) do not get a satisfactory answer. If you like Pop and Cas and value their relationship, don't read this book. If you like Kieran as anything other than a plot/sex device, don't read this book. If you want your characters to make any sort of sense according to what's already been established for them, don't read this book.
