Well-made, well-acted, hateful toward half its audience
Well-made and well-acted, I’ll give it that. But the writer/director falls into the common trope of voicing personal thoughts, ideas, and opinions through the main character, which detracts from a tangible human element. The grand message is, of course, life could end at any time and s*** happens, so make the most of it. Except to get to this platinum nugget of Fortune Cookie Wisdom, it requires 102 minutes of hearing how much Trump sucks, “thoughts and prayers” are worthless, and Christians are namby-pamby protesters - as if Mother Teresa never helped victims of tragedy. 99% of humanity before us dealt with death on a daily basis in the forms of wars, invasions, plagues, and all-around medical ignorance, which still pervades. Meanwhile, the writer/director likely grew up in a suburban home as a teenager smoking joints while trying to get laid. Spare me. I don’t have enough eye-rolls for main characters like this girl who whine endlessly about intricate scientific, spiritual, and political matters far beyond our understanding. Please, don’t succumb to somehow believing self-indulgent stories like this are profound.
