Horrible quality of material and they do not stand behind their product!
I purchased these Sony MDR1000X/B headphones on Jan 13, 2017 for the sole purpose of traveling. For my day to day headphones, I use the top of the line Shure SE535s ($500), but I wanted a wireless option with noise cancelling (while being on a plane, train, bus, etc...). I did a lot of research and I finally decided on these. When they arrived, I played with them for a while to get used to all the features, and I was very impressed with everything. I left for my first trip on Jan 30th for 3 days to New York. Although I only used the headphones on the 3 hours plane ride in each direction, they worked flawlessly and met all my expectations so I was very happy! While getting ready for a longer trip (Japan) on March 2nd, I decided to bring them back out before leaving to make sure they were fully charged and to re-familiarize myself with all the features. In doing so, I immediately noticed that there was a crack in the plastic on both sides, where the head band hinged at the right side ear cup (one much larger than the other). After deciding to check the left side, there too was a crack on that side (much smaller than the right side, but still visible). How could this happen after such a short amount of use?? I immediately contacted SONY, and to my complete bewilderment, within less than a minute of them asking me a few questions, they told me there is nothing that they can do for me. WHAT!?!? I couldn't believe my ears. This is what they told me..."since the headphones still operate in the same condition as you bought them, and we have not had any previous issues with cracking of the headband, unfortunately there is nothing we can do for you". UNBELIEVABLE! I cannot understand how SONY could not back up a product that I only had for 6 weeks and used twice for a total of about 6 hours! Since Amazon products can only be returned within the first 30 days (and it had been 48 days), I made a call to Asurion (which thankfully I decided to purchase the extra warranty insurance from them when I purchased the headphones). Within a few minutes they said they would help and sent me a pre-paid shipping label to return the headphones to them for further review. 3 days later when they received my headphones, they contacted me again and said that it would take a few days to be reviewed by their repair department. A few days later as promised, they informed me that the headphones could not be fixed, and they would be sending me a reimbursement for the entire initial cost I paid for them. HATS OFF to Asurion! Thank you so much! Boo to SONY though! They were horrible and won't stand behind their products! For that reason alone, I will not be using my refund money to purchase another pair of SONY headphones and would recommend everyone to steer clear of them. In hindsight, I should have listened to the other reviews saying that the biggest concern with these headphones was the quality. I will definitely not buy another pair of headphones with plastic parts around the headband and hinges. Parrot and Bang & Olufsen use all metal, so I will probably go with one of those...
