This is NOT Airtight - false advertising
My dog really hates food that isn't fresh: no matter what brand of food we feed him, he simply stops eating 2 to 3 weeks after the bag has been opened. We solved the problem temporarily by only buying 5 lb bags, but buying the smaller bags gets really expensive, so I'm hoping to find an airtight storage container that would allow us to keep a 40 lb. bag of food fresh for 3 to 4 weeks after opening.
The IRIS Premium Airtight Pet Food Storage Container is NOT the answer. This thing is so far from being "airtight" that I will not only be returning the product, but I'll report the product listing to Amazon as false advertising. Now, I wasn't expecting this to be literally airtight, but I was hoping for solid construction and a tight seal around the lid. Instead, however, the lid fits relatively loosely. The lever that is supposed to clamp the lid tight barely holds it closed. There is a foam gasket inside the lid, but that's pretty much useless because you can easily pull the lid up to create a gap of at least 1/4-inch all the way around the top of the container even when it is clamped "tight."
The design of the hinge is also highly suspect, allowing the lid to fall off completely if it is opened past 90 degrees. Also, the clamp that is supposed to lock the lid down tight is flimsy; I'd be surprised to see it last more than a month or two.
Amazon really needs to add a zero stars option for products that are this disappointing.
