★★☆☆☆
Poorly designed; frustrating to use.
I wanted to like this timer -- Oxo usually makes very well-designed stuff, and their paring knife, cutting board, tea kettle and a few other products are staples in my kitchen. Not this timer, though, disappointingly. First, you need two hands to use it. It's very tippy, and as other reviewers have pointed out, to fix that you need to stick little rubber thingies under the front edge so it won't tip when you press the start/stop or reset buttons. Come on -- users shouldn't have to fix a design flaw that should have been obvious to any Oxo product tester. Second, after 30 seconds of timing something, the timer stays visible but de-selects itself, so to stop it you need to (step 1) press the corresponding button on the side of the timer to re-select it, and then (step 2) press stop. Irritating when you're in the middle of cooking something and want to just quickly stop the timer with one finger. I can see this when you're using the device's multiple timers, but when you're using just one? Unnecessarily annoying. And third and finally, after not using it for awhile, the timer defaults to clock mode, which means to use a timer you have to pick the thing up and select one of the timers via its corresponding side switch. I already have multiple clocks in my kitchen, so the clock is the device's least useful feature by far -- why not just program it to stay in timer mode? I bought this to replace an old West Bend timer that worked fine (with one finger!) for about 20 years but is now on its last legs. The search for a good replacement continues.
