Casing is bigger than on the standard cable
The Lightning connector is really a lot nicer than the old 30-pin connector, and for that I would be willing to have to buy new accessories and adapters (though $40 feels like a bit of a gouge on Apple's part....), but the infuriating thing about this particular adapter is that the casing on the Lightning end is significantly bigger than the casing on the Lightning end of the USB to Lighting cable Apple ships with the iPhone 5. This means that this adapter cable will not be compatible with various cases (including the one on my wife's iPhone 5).
The casing on the USB->Lightning cable is 0.262 x 0.147 inches, on this adapter the casing is 0.318 x 0.207 inches.
