Epic Fail
Please, someone explain to Newsweek that just doing a screen shot of each page of the printed magazine and then slapping them on an app that lets you flip from one to the other is not digital magazine - it is simply a slideshow of PHOTOS of a print magazine. This may work on a 10" tablet (doubtful) or a 17" monitor but trying to read this on a 7' tablet or smart phone is a frustrating joke. Scrolling up and down and back and forth while trying to read a article. This is nuts! If you can't scale the text it is useless.
Also, that is why the load times are horrible - we are simply downloading huge "photos". Text in it native form creates relatively small files and downloads fast. Most e-magazines/newspapers use a combination true text and photos to get to a workable file size and they work well. But it is much easier and CHEAPER to just scan in the printed pages and post them. To me it is obvious they are not serious about continuing this magazine. My guess is this is just a stop gap method to keep from refunding subscription fees. Once the fees are nearing their end of cycle I will not be surprised to see the magazine fold. If not, why in the world would they offer a horrible product like this?
Making the call (1-800-631-1040) to cancel my subscription.
