Solid frame, shoddy wheels
I love and hate this ATC cart! I would give it five stars if the wheel spokes and bearings were sturdier. Why Seattle Sports cheaped out on the wheels is beyond me. We purchased this ATC cart to help make our recent 80 mile canoe "touring" trip, with over 7 portages through the Adirondack Lake System, this past Summer a little easier. Unfortunately one of the wheels buckled like a pringle on the second portage. We had purchased this ALL TERRAIN CART with the impression, that our 200lbs (canoe weight of 80lbs and an additional 120lbs of gear) would be well below the carts rated 300lbs as advertised. We were wrong, and don't recommend anyone try to load these wheels with anything over 150lbs. Cons: 1. Wheels are junk made with skimpy 1/4" shafts and only 20 spokes. My kids huffy has 3/8" shafts and 28 spokes. If you only plan to use cart for portaging less than 150lbs, then this cart is for you. Just don't expect any customer support if something goes wrong. 2. Poor customer support, see quote from manufacturer when I attempted to get a replacement wheel. "We're very sorry about your ATC wheel. But we don't see this to be a manufacturing defect though. While the ATC is our most durable cart, it is still not meant for a long haul journey. If you'd like we can sell you an ATC Wheel. The cost is $25 + shipping". Really? $25+ for another shabby wheel? Also, I'm not sure why they don't consider it meant for the kind of journey that it was advertised as being appropriate for. What else would someone want portage wheels for, if not for portaging? 3. Two straps should be provided as one strap isn't enough to keep canoe centered on the wheels. Pros: 1. The frame is well designed and built with durable strong corrosion resistant tubing. 2. Both wheels pivot in for easy storage in the bow of a touring canoe. 3. Kick stand comes in extremely handy when loading a long canoe solo. Padding will protect hull from scratches. 4. You can always replace the wheels with stronger modeled kids 16" bike wheels and end up with a solid cart! Overall: 1. Cart frame gets 5 stars. However, Seattle Sports loses a star for each wimpy wheel and a third star for poor customer support.
