★☆☆☆☆
Disappointing
This book was one cliche after another. None of the characters are likable. Mackenzie is young, smart and driven, but also reckless and arrogant. The police officers she works with are caricatures of inept, sexist pigs who couldn't solve a crime if their lives depended on it. The author's condescending attitude towards small towns is felt clearly. The Catholic school principal Mackenzie speaks with is also a caricature of a nun , and Mackenzie, who is allegedly brilliant, doesn't know that a nun is addressed as "Sister " and not "Mrs". And Mackenzie gets a job offer from the FBI without even an interview, which is hilarious to anyone who has even a passing familiarity with the extremely rigorous interview and testing process the FBI goes through to select agents. Don't waste your time with this book.
