Beware of This Product
This VSTM OBD II Memory Saver Cable has a cigarette lighter type plug on one end which plugs into a battery booster box, or another vehicle's power port. The other end is an OBD II plug which attaches into the OBD II receptacle on a vehicle, usually under the dashboard area. An OBD II system utilizes 16 pins in the receiver, with each pin assigned to a particular function via the vehicle's ECU (a very expensive component). Pin # 16 is universally designed to carry 12 volt power to the system. This is the pin where a 12 volt power source should connect. But the VSTM Cable directs 12 volt power to pin # 9, which is known as a select monitor designation, and is used by different companies to perform various tasks through the vehicle's ECU. I elaborate on this explanation in hopes that the product manufacturer will read it. On three of my personal vehicles, putting 12 volts into pin #9 would damage the ECU at great cost. I was warned to test the VSTM Cable before connecting it to my car, and thus I discovered the problem with this product. I contacted the company, who did respond back in a timely manner, stating that they would send me another Cable. The second Cable arrived, and when it was tested it was found to also direct power to pin #9. I hate to consider what would have happened to any of my vehicles if I had connected the VSTM Cable as the directions show. The VSTM Cable appears to be well constructed, but there is either a severe quality control problem in the manufacturing process, or the designers of this item do not have a clue as to what they are dealing with. In any case, as an experienced automotive technician I now own two pieces of junk that will not go into my tool box. Beware of this product!

I previously stated that this company did respond to my complaint in a timely manner. They sent me another cable, but it too was defective. When I notified them of this matter they did issue me a Full Refund for the item. It is too bad that the product they sell is poor quality because the company did an excellent job at customer satisfaction when all was said and done.
