Well...
I've never had a pool that I thought I needed a bunch of chemicals for. This summer I purchased a 12' x 30" Intex frame pool. I did quite a bit of reading & everything I read pretty much said I needed a bunch of chemicals. I purchased this kit, but it doesn't come with instructions for first time chemical users. When I used the shock I figured out on my own that I needed to dissolve it in a bucket of water before adding to the pool. But still, a lot of the granules just sunk to the floor of the pool. I didn't have much luck with this kit as my pool liner was usually slimy even though I measured all the chemicals just as instructed and added them in the order I understood them to be added. The water was also discolored & smelled funny. I remember reading about a mom using plain old house strength bleach in her pool. She said it worked great. So I did the same, and wah lah! It actually stopped my liner from being slimy, stopped the discoloration of the water, and the smell is now gone!! I imagine that in the pool world they would probably frown upon me for using bleach for one reason or another, but it works for me so I'm gonna continue using it. It's also WAY cheaper than all those confusing chemicals. I added 4 cups initially to clear up all the gunk then 2 cups in the evening after swimming when running the pump. Thanks:)
