Bebop is not ready for Prime Time.
After following the instructions to the letter I took Bebop outside on a calm day and sat it down and hit takeoff. It shot up to about 6 feet and hovered perfectly. I was controlling it with my Ipad which for awhile worked really well and I was thinking this thing is cool. Then suddenly it started gaining altitude for no reason and I immediately tried to bring it down and it responded by shooting skywards at warp speed and there was nothing I could do to stop it. I tried the return home button to no avail. I had the maximum altitude set at 6 meters so it should not have went above that height. I looked skyward and I eventually lost sight of it. Thinking it lost and my $500 down the drain I started looking around and to amazingly it had fallen back to earth upside on the lawn about 300 yards away from me. Fortunately it wasn't damaged but rather than risk losing my $500 next time I took it back to Best Buy. It is possible it lost the Wifi connection because in testing often times it would lose the connection but it should have returned home. I noticed another fellow had the same problem so this is not an isolated case. I called Parrot and told them about it and they didn't even care and said the drone would not be covered under warranty if it happened again. So buyer beware! This is what happened to me. Get the DJI Phantom 1. It is cheaper and way more reliable. UPDATE Well, I decided to try another Bebop Drone so I went over to Best Buy and bought another one figuring the first one was just defective. In the mean time I opened a ticket with Parrot and I discussed my problems with their tech department. This time I made I had the latest firmware upgrade downloaded into the drone and everything else check out correctly. I had the maximum altitude set at 6 meters and I had the drone set to outside and I CALIBRATED it once again. The connection to my Ipad was solid so I felt safe trying it outside again. I put it down and pushed launched and from the moment I pushed the button on the Ipad I knew I was in trouble. The thing sounded like it was possessed! The motors whirred like they had a supercharger in them and the thing took off like it wanted to go back to China. Straight up in the air at an incredible speed. By the time I hit the Emergency Button it must have been at least 100 feet in the air. If I wouldn't have stopped it it would have been out of sight just like the other one. On launch it is supposed to stop and hover at about 5 feet and stay there. Which it obviously didn't. I thought about catching it when it came down like a lead duck but for my own safety I decided against it. It hit the ground hard and broke one of the little landing feet on it. I returned it to Best Buy again and swore I was done this time. Maybe in 6 months when they get the bugs worked out of these things I will try it again. Maybe not. I have the DJI Phantom which I fly in the same area all the time and I never had any trouble with it. Some people have talked about using the Bebop for filming weddings and such and it just cracks me up. There is NO WAY I would try flying this thing over people's heads at a wedding. That would be an invitation for a disaster. Just let me say I have flown drones before and I know what I am doing and this is an honest review and not a PR stunt for DJH's benefit and I live in Denver CO.,USA not France or Italy and I have written a lot of other reviews. So take it however you want to but I am going to wait awhile before I try another Bebop. Check the reviews on it at Best Buy and Apple and you will see the same type of things with a LOT of fly away reports. Buyer Beware.
