Amazon A++ / Nectar F
Ordered the mattress and selected no-rush shipping even though I’m a Prime member. Good ol’ Amazon ended up sending it earlier than expected anyway. Rushed home and set it up right away. After waiting the requisite 72 hours, the mattress has mostly expanded but both the left and right edges failed to expand. It’s an incredibly uniform defect that runs the length of the mattress and looks identical on both sides. If you look directly at the foot of the mattress, the top of the mattress looks like a trapezoid. Pictures attached. Contacted Nectar and they said it was likely defective and I’d have to return it through Amazon. Called Amazon and they’re sending out a replacement right away. Perfect Amazon customer service. I get that things happen so I’m not passing judgement on the mattress just yet. Im rating the one I have but crossing my fingers the new one works perfectly. If it does, I’ll come back and update my review to be fair to Nectar. Update 11/30/18: Once again, Amazon beat expectations. The mattress wasn’t supposed to arrive until tomorrow but it showed up today. Now this is interesting. This mattress came packaged much differently than the first. It’s in a giant blue box. No duffle. I inspected it initially to make sure it was a king becasue it didn’t look like there was any way a king sized mattress could fit in the box. But it was labeled king. It also has a date stamped on the box presumably of when it it was made or packed. Unpacked, it’s the mattress folded in half lengthwise and rolled up in two layers of clear plastic. Ive added pics of the box and the sealed mattress. I just used my hands to tear off the outer layer of plastic as I unrolled it. Once unrolled, it was easy to remove the inner/vacuum layer just by tearing along the seams. Right away, it expanded fairly uniformly to around 9 inches. The edges are a bit lumpy but I don’t see the same tapered defect that I saw with the last mattress. Hopefully that’ll still be true after the expansion window is done. The colors are slightly different. The new mattress has a darker, blue greenish bottom and the Nectar logo is slightly different. The old mattress was stark white on the bottom. Added a pic of that too. Not relevant to expansion, but there are a lot of successes and complaints in here so maybe this might indicate some different style they’re manufacturing that could help us clue in to which are defective. Will update again after it either fully expands ... or doesn’t. Update 12/1: it’s been 24 hours and it’s still not expanding significantly. It’s maybe a quarter inch thicker than it expanded to right after unpacking. It’s still less than 9.5”. This is not looking good. I’ll give it the full 72 hours before lying on it. Browsing the reviews, it seems like getting a good mattress is the exception, not the rule. Update 12/1: Thought I’d check it again before bed. Still no expansion. Also, and this is significant, the mattress is simply the wrong size. A king should be 76”w by 80” l. I noticed (a) the mattress overhanging the foot of my foundation and (b) there looked to be a significant amount of the foundation showing along the side. So I made sure everything was evened up and broke out the tape measure. The current width of the mattress is 71”. Even if it expanded outwardly the remaining 2” on each side (which I don’t think is going to happen), it would still be an inch less than the proper width. The length of the mattress is 82.5”, 2 inches longer than a king. This appears to just be poor quality control. I’m rapidly losing patience with this company. Update 12/2: Past the 48 hour mark. The mattress has only expanded to 9.75”. Not looking good. Plus ... as I mentioned earlier it’s not even a standard king size. At this point I’m torn. I’d rather just refund altogether but it was such a great Black Friday deal that i kind of want to keep exchanging them until I find one that works. 12/9: Last update. So, Amazon gave me an exchange for the first mattress, but said they weren’t set up to process returned mattresses so suggested I keep the old one and donate it. I’ve documented the issues with the second mattress above. Finally decided to just get a refund. Dealing with these things simply isn’t worth the trouble. Since this was a return of a return, Amazon had to escalate the issue and they handled this one differently. They sent a freight company by today to pick up the second mattress. Was hoping they’d grab the first one too but they weren’t set up to handle it. No big deal. All said and done, I’ve spent several nights sleeping on the couch and now I have a hundred pounds of foam propped in my bedroom that I need to get rid of, but at least Amazon handled everything well and I wasn’t out the cost of the mattress. The freight company that came today said they’d picked up a lot of these things. They’d actually picked one up on the stop right before mine. I see there are a lot of positive reviews out there. I think the issue boils down to just poor quality. You have no idea what you’re going to get when you order these things. If you’re lucky, you’ll get a good one. If not, you’re in for a hassle. Final illustration, I’m attaching a picture that shows pretty well what kind of quality control issues you’re dealing with. On the left is one of the pillows that came with the first mattress. On the right is one that came with the second. You can clearly see that even these things don’t expand correctly. I’d suggest avoiding this company at all costs.
