Too Vague
Every time I pick this "Desk Reference" up I am disappointed. While it has the appearance of a true Desk Reference (very heavy and thick), it is NOT what I had expected. What I was looking for was an exhaustive reference book that I could look up a particular oil and find an exhaustive list of information about that oil. While this book has a section that lists the oils and historical data and uses, it is so vague its useless. If it lists that an oil is useful for diabetes, for example, then tell me how to use it for a diabetic patient and what the intended outcome would be. The uses are pretty much the same for almost every oil - diffuse, massage (this is where it gets the most detailed telling you to dilute it in vegetable oil), inhale or take as a dietary supplement. The information I would expect - parameters for the specific oils are not there. How do you take it as a dietary supplement? How much, how often? Is it safe for kids? Where am I supposed to massage it? Any concerns or cautions i.e. if you are pregnant or lactating? What would happen if you ingested or applied too much/too often? etc.
The section that lists conditions and problems (Personal Usage) and the oils recommended for those conditions is probably the most helpful. It lists the oils and blends useful for that purpose but then gives generalized application and usage - not specific to any one oil.
The majority of this book is Young Living propaganda and the useful information is scattered throughout. Its a pain to try to find exactly what I'm looking for. There is SO much wiggle room - you can tell they don't want to be held responsible for someone's bad outcome if they got more specific.
I have had more success with a little 100 page book "Gentle Babies" that has testimonials on how people have used the oils and the outcomes. Maybe one day I'll appreciate this book more but I'll have to lower my expectations for that to happen.
